My name is Shangita Richards, I am an experienced, accredited, Counsellor & Hypnotherapist working in a private setting based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. I offer various therapeutic models of counselling & hypnotherapy, on many different issues and adapt my way of working to suit each individual and unique client, but whatever the approach is, at all times I provide a completely confidential, sensitive, caring and reliable relationship where clients are supported during difficult times.

I provide a warm, safe, un-judgmental and confidential environment for you to talk freely about the issues that are causing you concern. I will be there supporting you at all times and strive to understand your thoughts and feelings from your own point of view. During the sessions you may go through a period of feeling worse than when you started. However, therapy should enable you to feel better in the long-run.

Clients can self-refer and a GP referral is not necessary. I work with clients from the age of 8 upwards.

From time to time we can all experience difficulties in everyday life and encounter problems that we simply find hard to cope with alone. You may feel worried, anxious, unhappy, confused, isolated or may be experiencing difficulties in relationships. These feelings and thoughts may persist and become overwhelming. You may have tried talking to loved ones, partners or friends and still unable to find some peace or understanding of the challenge you are facing. Or you may have simply found it difficult to talk to the important people in your life leaving you feeling even more isolated with your difficulties.

When you are feeling this way, you may need support and therapy will enable you to express your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment where you will feel a genuinely warm, honest and empathic therapeutic experience.


Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows a person to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential and safe environment.

Counselling is not just for talking about problems or issues that are causing you concerns. Some people use talking therapies to help them to cope with specific difficulties, such as serious illness, bereavement, anxiety or depression, whereas other people may use counselling for personal growth and development in a safe and supportive environment. There are a number of reasons why people will seek counselling: it is not at all necessary to have a ‘problem’ to find counselling useful.

Lack of clarity often brings anxiety so the aim of counselling is to free the person being counselled to live more fully and such fuller living comes through action.

Everybody’s needs are unique; therefore some counselling sessions can last from 2 to 6 sessions or more depending on your needs. This will be discussed and agreed during the first session. This relationship is developed on trust and respect which is important in any mutual therapeutic relationship.
